Katie Linnertz joined the Dukes' staff as an assistant coach in August 2010.

Prior to coming to JMU, Linnertz was an assistant coach at Boston University, where she was the team's defensive coordinator.  During her tenure with BU, the Terriers won three America East championships and played in three NCAA Tournaments.  BU advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2009.  The team's overall record during Linnertz's three seasons as assistant coach was 44-16.

The 2007 George Mason graduate was a four-year starter on defense for the Patriots.  She was an All-Colonial Athletic Association second team selection in 2005. 

A Dean's List student as an undergraduate, Linnertz earned the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award twice (2005, 2007) and was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll two times (2005, 2006).

She earned a bachelor's degree in government and international politics from George Mason, where she held minors in legal studies and English.
 
Linnertz is a native of Syracuse, N.Y., and a graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School, where she earned all-league and All-Central New York honors.
