 Game Notes:

  • JMU extended its winning streak to 13 games with a 78-47 win over Hofstra on Sunday. With the win, Madison improved to 23-4 on the season and 13-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
  • Senior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) scored 28 points against the Pride to moved into a tie for seventh on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,496 points.
  • Burkholder also grabbed 25 rebounds last week to move into fourth on the program's all-time rebounding list with 848. She needs three more to tie Sarah Schreib (1992-97) for third all-time.
  • JMU won the previous meeting with Charleston, 92-59 in Harrisonburg earlier this season, it was the first-ever meeting between the two squads.

 Game Notes:

  • The Dukes lead after one day at the CAA Championships, scoring 120 points in the first three events of the meet. Defending-champion Towson is in second with 111 points.
  • On Wednesday, Madison won gold in two events, claiming first in the 200-yard medley relay on the three-meter diving board. Redshirt freshman Taryn McLaughlin (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) set a three-meter board CAA Championships record with 373.85 points.
  • Thursday's schedule includes finals in the 500-yard freestyle, the 200 individual medley, the 50 freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

  • The Dukes are 8-7 after going 3-2 at last weekend's NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. JMU picked up wins over Rutgers, No. 20/22 UL Lafayette and RV/NR DePaul.
  • The win over Louisiana-Lafayette was the second win over a ranked opponent since Head Coach Mickey Dean took over prior to the 2013 season.

  • JMU is coming off a 16-15 win in double overtime at Jacksonville.  Junior attacker Stephanie Finley tallied the winning goal in sudden-victory overtime after winning the draw control.
  • Finley leads the Dukes in goals (10), assists (5), points (15) and draw controls (17) through three games this season.  Sophomore midfielder Jaci Gordon leads in ground balls (10) while junior defender Lexi Cross and senior defender Leah Perrotta are tied for team-high honors in caused turnovers (4).
  • The Greyhounds are ranked No. 5 in the latest IWLCA Coaches poll (Feb. 23) after picking up wins over No. 6 Virginia and No. 17 Princeton to start the season.  They fell 6-5 to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, their first loss of the season.

  • Sophomore pitcher Jailyn Ford (Hot Springs, Va./Bath County) was named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team last weekend. She went 2-1 with a 1.33 ERA in 21 innings pitched. The left-hander struck out 23 and walked only four in three complete games for the Dukes.
  • Ford also added two doubles and hit .286 at the plate during the weekend.
  • This is the first meeting in the series history between Madison and Kent State.
  • The Golden Flashes come into the weekend with a 6-4 record, including a 3-0 win over #6/5 Kentucky.

  • Sophomore second baseman Hannah Hayes (LaCrosse, Va./Kenston Forest) continues to lead the JMU offense, hitting .459 with seven runs scored, four RBIs and two doubles.
  • JMU and Fairfield have played twice in their series history. Each team has won once with JMU taking an 8-0, six-inning decision on a neutral field in 2010 while Fairfield beat Madison 2-1 in eight innings in 2011.
  • The Stags come into the weekend with a 1-3 record after opening their season at the ESPN Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla., last weekend.

  • The Dukes are on a two-match win-streak after victories at George Mason (5-0) and Washington & Lee (8-1).
  • JMU swept the CAA Weekly Honors after the wins. Junior Taylor Pinchoff earned Player of the Week accolades, and Team of the Week honors went to sophomore Cara Wirth and redshirt junior Sarah Khan.

  • Kevin Husum leads the Dukes in average (.438). He is 14-for-32 with two doubles, a triple and seven RBIs.
  • The Rams are led offensively by Tim Caputo, who is batting .563 with two doubles and two RBIs. The team has yet to hit a home run through seven games.

  • JMU wraps up regular season play at Hofstra on Saturday night. The Dukes won the first meeting this season 59-53 at the JMU Convocation Center.
  • The Dukes have won two of their last three conference games and are tied for fifth in the CAA.
  • Playing in the final home game of his six-year career, graduate forward Andrey Semenov scored a team-high 22 points in a 69-66 loss to visiting Towson on Wednesday.
  • The Pride have lost five straight games, beginning with the loss to the Dukes.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU will celebtrate senior day as it honors its Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) and Nikki Newman (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) prior to their final regular season home game at the JMU Convocation Center. Gates open at 12:30 p.m.
  • Newman will become the JMU all-time leader in game's played if she appears in Sunday's game. It will be her 141st game played.
  • JMU ranks first in the nation in defending the three-point shot, holding its foes to 24.0-percent from downtown. In conference play, the Dukes are holding their opponents to 18.5-percent from three.
  • Madison leads the all-time series 62-15 against WIlliam & Mary, including a 72-48 win in Williamsburg earlier this season.

 Game Notes:

  • Freshman outfielder Niki Prince (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) made her first apperances of the season last weekend. She started all five games in center for Madison after missing the first two weekends with an injury.
  • The Dukes and Nittany Lions have met three times, dating back to 2003. Penn State leads the all-time series 2-1. It won the first meeting in 2003, 3-0 and followed that up with a 5-4 win in their first meeting in 2012. JMU took the last battle between the squads, racking up a 10-8 win in nine innings in 2012.
  • Penn State is 5-9 on the season and currently is riding a five-game losing streak after dropping all its games at last weekend's FAU Invitational.
