RICHMOND, Va., April 9, 2013 – For the second straight week, senior Adrena May (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) has earned Field Athlete of the Week honors from the Colonial Athletic Association.
On day one of the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, May threw the hammer 50.52 meters (165’9”) to set a James Madison track & field record in the event with her third-straight personal best. She bested her previous top performance of 49.17 meters (161’4”) from March 30 at the Raleigh Relays.
May finished fourth in the event out of 25 competitors in Lynchburg, Va., on April 5. Her distance is the best of the Colonial Athletic Association this spring and ranks 82nd in the NCAA East Region.
The JMU hammer throw record was previously held by sophomore Daquaä Scott (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee). She launched the hammer 50.05 meters (164’2”) at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational last April.
The Dukes will split for two competitions on April 13, sending a contingent south for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami, Fla., while others trek north for the Patriot Open Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
