Women's Golf Finishes 17th At Web.com Intercollegiate/Marsh Landing Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The James Madison women's golf team finished 17th at the highly-competitive 2013 Web.com Intercollegiate/Marsh Landing Invitational, April 8-9. The two-day, 54-hole event, including six teams in the top 50 nationally, is being played at Marsh Landing Country Club (Par 72 - 5,987 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Madison slipped two spots in the final round after shooting a 23-over 311 to finish at 52-over 916. Second-round leader No.14 Purdue shot a tournament-low 5-under 283 on the final day to finish at 7-under 857 and win by 10 shots over No. 28 Iowa State at 1-over 865. No. 17 Texas Tech was third at 5-over 869, with Florida State in fourth at 22-over 886 and UCF rounding out the top five teams at 23-over 887.

The Dukes were led by junior Ginger Mak who tied for 43rd at 10-over 226 (73-76-77). Freshman Karishma Thiagaraj in a tie for 49th at 11-over 227 after a final round 2-over 74. Sophomores Maria Andrea Legaspi and Shabril Brewer tied for 70th at 16-over 232, while sophomore Nikola Wessels tied for 92nd at 23-over 239. Gabriella Dominguez of Texas Tech and Purdue's Paula Reto tied for medalist honors at 4-under 212, with Reto winning the tournament title in a playoff.

The Dukes return to the course Fri.-Sun., April 19-21 to compete in the 2013 CAA Women's Golf Championship at St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C. Madison, currently ranked second in the CAA by Golfstat, will be battling for the league title and the automatic berth in the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals.
