HARRISONBURG,
Va. - The James Madison football program presented its annual awards at the
team's postseason banquet honoring the 2011 team, held at JMU's Festival Conference
Center Jan. 14, 2012. The top moments of the evening were comments from the 2011
seniors, awarding of the captains and team awards and the 2011 highlight video.
Below are the award winners for the program, with the majority of them voted on
by the team:
- Dean Ehlers Award (JMU's Most Valuable Performer) - Redshirt-sophomore running back Dae'Quan Scott
- Gary Clark Award (JMU's Offensive Performer of the Year) - Redshirt-junior quarterback Justin Thorpe
- Charles Haley Award (JMU's Defensive Performer of the Year) - Redshirt-sophomore linebacker Stephon Robertson
- Linemen of the Year - Redshirt-senior defensive end D.J. Bryant and redshirt-junior offensive guard Earl Watford
- Challace McMillin Award (Presented to a JMU football player who has been chosen as the squad's special teams player of the year) - Redshirt-sophomore kicker Cameron Starke
- Bob Yetzer Memorial Award (Presented annually to a JMU football player who best exemplifies the characteristics of determination, dedication and leadership) - Senior linebackers Pat Williams and Vidal Nelson
- Casey Carter Academic Achievement Award (Presented to a JMU football player who has exhibited the most significant academic improvement over his career) - Redshirt-senior defensive end D.J. Bryant
- Doug West Memorial Award (Presented annually to a JMU football player, who has been a member of the Dukes' scout team, for his effort and dedication - freshman defensive lineman Alex Mosley (defense) and junior wide receiver Quintin Hunter (offense)
- Hess-Green Award (Presented annually to a JMU football player who has returned to the field of play, overcoming a significant injury) - Redshirt-senior defensive tackle Nick Emmons
- John Kraus Memorial Award (Presented Annually to an individual who was originally a walk-on JMU football player and who exemplified the characteristics of spirt, determination, leadership, scholarship, work ethic and love of the game) - Senior linebacker Vidal Nelson
- Class academic awards - Seniors - Roane Babington and Pat Williams; Junior - Tyler Snow; Sophomore - Zack Ozycz and Dean Marlowe; Freshman - Evan Larson
