RICHMOND, Va. - Redshirt-senior linebacker Pat Williams earned Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced this past Monday. It was the first time he has won the weekly honor and the second straight week that a Madison player has gotten the honor, as redshirt-sophomore linebacker Stephon Robertson won the award last week.
Williams, a leader for the James Madison defense, garnered CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week honors after the Dukes beat Richmond, 31-7, in Harrisonburg Saturday, the first home win over the Spiders since 2003. The senior linebacker recorded a team-high eight total tackles for a defense which limited the Spiders, who averaged nearly 380 yards/game on offense entering the contest, to -12 yards rushing and just 118 total yards. James Madison's defense forced two turnovers and sacked Richmond quarterback Aaron Corp seven times for a loss of 47 yards in the game.
JMU continues its three-game homestand next weekend as it hosts Maine at Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
