RICHMOND, Va. - James Madison redshirt junior quarterback Justin Thorpe (Richmond, Va./Varina) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league today. It is his first weekly honor of 2012 and third of his career (including a pair of Rookie of the Week honors in 2009) as well as the fifth for JMU this year.
Thorpe came up clutch off the bench for a Dukes squad that helped enhance its chances at a coveted playoff spot with a 31-7 road win over Maine. The junior signal caller finished with 16 carries for 111 yards and a pair of scores to complement a contest in which he went an efficient 9-for-12 for 108 yards through the air with a third touchdown, no interceptions and no sacks. Thorpe led JMU to an overall dominant day on the offensive end, as the team tallied 476 yards of total offense, an 11-for-20 third-down conversion rate and a nearly 15-minute advantage in time of possession.
JMU will play its final regular-season road game next Saturday, Nov. 10, when it travels to Villanova for another key CAA matchup. Kickoff at Villanova Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
