RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 11, 2013 – After setting a career-high in digs and tying her career-best in blocks, James Madison redshirt junior setter Kristi Richardson (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. This is the first time in her career that Richardson has claimed the conference’s weekly honor.
Richardson helped lead JMU to a come-from-behind victory over William & Mary last Friday, finishing with 42 assists, 23 digs, seven blocks and two kills while coming off the bench for Madison. The 23 digs were five more than her previous career-best set against George Mason on Nov. 5, 2011. She also set a new season-best for blocks while tying her career mark set against North Dakota on Aug. 27, 2011.
This season, the Glen Allen, Va., native is averaging 8.27 assists, 2.35 and 0.96 blocks per set for JMU. She has appeared in 75 sets while starting 16 matches for the Dukes.
Northeastern’s Kelly Bacon claimed CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors while her teammate Jamie Bredahl was named the Rookie of the Week.
The Dukes return to action this weekend, playing their final two regular season matches of the season. They play at Northeastern at 4 p.m. on Friday in Boston, Mass., before heading to Hofstra for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.
