HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 23, 2012 – On Oct. 19, the James Madison field hockey team hosted Duke University at the JMU Field Hockey complex for the team’s annual Stick it to Cancer event.
In total, JMU raised $665 for cancer research with all proceeds going to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. The money was raised through donations and a silent auction. The biggest auction item, a field hockey stick signed by the entire 2012 field hockey team, brought in $150.
The Stick it to Cancer campaign is a collaboration of field hockey teams across the country to raise funds for the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). Teams have designated a game throughout the season and collected donations to pass along.
The NFCR is a leading cancer research charity dedicated to funding cancer research and public education relating to cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis, better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilities collaboration among scientists to accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside.
