RICHMOND, Va., Oct., 30, 2011 – After a one-year absence from the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, the James Madison field hockey team returns to the tournament in 2011 as the fourth seed out of six teams. JMU faces fifth-seeded Delaware in the opening round, scheduled for 5 p.m. in Norfolk, Va. on Thursday.
The Dukes finished the regular season at 8-9 overall and 4-4 in league play. They earned the tiebreaker on Delaware (4-4 CAA, 9-10 overall) and sixth-seeded Towson (4-4 CAA, 10-9 overall) on the strength of head-to-head wins over both.
Old Dominion, ranked No. 1 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division Coaches Poll, swept through the CAA at 8-0 and earned the top seed. It will host the tournament at the Powhatan Sports Complex. Northeastern finished the year at 5-3 in league play and 13-6 overall to pick up the No. 2 seed and the tournament’s other bye. Hofstra is the sixth participant, taking home the third seed and facing Towson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the other opening-round game.
The winner of the game between JMU and Delaware will face Old Dominion at noon on Saturday in the first semifinal game. The Hofstra and Towson winner will face Northeastern at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The championship game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.
Admission to the CAA Championship is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12 and younger. Students from the participating institutions will receive free admission with a college ID.
