HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 22, 2010 - James Madison field hockey senior back Amy Daniel (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) was named to the 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America Second Team as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Monday.
Daniel earned her first All-America honor of her career after leading the Colonial Athletic Association with 19 goals and 47 points. She also ranked seventh in the conference in shots (73), sixth in assists (nine) and tied for sixth in game-winning goals (three). Last week she was named First Team All-South Region by the NFHCA and also collected a First Team All-CAA honor earlier this season.
Daniel's 47 points is the 10th most in school history for a single season. In addition to her offensive success, she played a pivotal role in the middle of a JMU defense that allowed just 1.75 goals per game while also being the team's primary strike on penalty corners.
This is the first All-America honor for the Dukes since Kelsey Cutchins (2006-09), Lauren Walls (2005-08) and Melissa Walls (2005-08) garnered honors in 2008. Cutchins was a First-Team selection while the Walls sisters were both Third-Team honorees.
Daniel was one of four CAA players selected as All-Americans.
