HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 30, 2013 – Freshman Ashley Herndon (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) was named to the College Soccer 360 Women’s Soccer National Honor Roll on Tuesday, following JMU’s 1-0-1 record in conference play last week.
Herndon contributed a goal and an assist as JMU earned four points in two tough road matches to clinch the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title. The freshman forward assisted on Katie Hyland’s game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory at Northeastern on Friday and scored the game-tying goal in the 69th minute as the Dukes battled to a 2-2 draw at Hofstra on Sunday. Herndon is tied for the team lead with 17 points.
It is the first national honor and fourth honor overall for Herndon this season. She has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week three times.
As the top seed in the CAA Tournament, the Dukes (14-4-1, 6-1-1 CAA) will host the semifinal and championship rounds at University Park. The semifinals will be played on Friday, Nov. 8, while the title game will take place on Sunday, Nov. 10.
