RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 14, 2013 – James Madison volleyball freshman right side hitter Janey Goodman (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday. This is the third time this season that Goodman has collected the conference’s Rookie of the Week accolade.
Goodman helped lead JMU to a 2-0 record over the weekend with wins over Towson and Delaware. She collected a team-high 24 kills and added seven blocks in eight sets played over the weekend. In the win over Towson, Goodman led the team with 14 kills, averaging 3.50 kills per set. She followed that up 10 kills and a team-high five blocks in the win over the Blue Hens.
This season, Goodman leads the team with 231 kills, averaging 3.08 per set. She ranks seventh in the CAA and first amongst freshman in both categories. The left-hander is fourth on the team with 48 blocks, averaging 0.64 per set.
Goodman is the third CAA player to collect one of the league’s weekly honors for the third time this season, joining Hofstra’s Kelsie Wills and Delaware’s Ariel Shonk.
Northeastern’s Kelly Bacon was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week while Shonk collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
JMU returns to action this weekend with a road trip to UNCW and the College of Charleston. The Dukes face the Seahawks at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 before continuing south to play Charleston on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
