Women's Golf Seventh Through 36 Holes of Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The James Madison women's golf team was consistent in the first two rounds and is currently seventh after 36 holes of the 2013 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, Oct. 7. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by East Carolina University, is being played at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C.

The Dukes opened the tournament with a 17-over 305 in the first round and then shot a 15-over 303 in the afternoon for a two-round total of 32-over 608. East Tennessee State has led both rounds, including an even-par 288 in the first round, and a two-round total of 20-over 596, one shot better than host East Carolina at 21-over 597. Middle Tennessee is one shot back at 22-over 598, with Old Dominion close behind at 23-over 599 in fourth. Georgia State and Penn State are tied for fifth at 29-over 605, with just 14 shots separating first from ninth heading into the final round.

Junior Shabril Brewer is the top Madison player, having posted a 2-over 74 in the morning and following it up with an even-par 72 in the afternoon for a 36-hole total of 2-over 146, good for a tie for sixth. Sophomore Karishma Thiagaraj is two shots backa t 4-over 148 in a tie for ninth after a pair of 2-over 74s. Senior Ginger Mak is tied for 40th at 12-over 156, having improved for 79 to 77 in the afternoon. Junior Nikola Wessels and freshman Nicola Haynes are tied for 65th at 19-over 163.

Middle Tennessee's Avery George is the 36-hole individual leader at 2-under 142, including a 5-under 67 in the afternoon. Chattanooga's Jordan Britt is one shot back at 1-under 143, as 15 players are within eight shots of the lead.

The field will go off on a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., with JMU starting on holes 7-9 and playing with Maryland and Chattanooga.
