 Game Notes:

  • JMU will compete in the first of four tournaments this weekend, beginning the fall slate at the Liberty Fall Classic. 
  • It is the third season in a row that the Dukes will play in Lynchburg, Va., during the tournament season.  Last year, Jacqueline Palmucci won the Flight 2 singles title and two doubles teams won their respective flight titles.
  • The Dukes return four from the 2012 squad, including All-CAA First Team honoree Taylor Pinchoff.  She was the first Duke to earn first team honors for both singles and doubles in a single season.
  • Three freshmen are ready to make their collegiate debuts for the purple and gold.  The class of 2017, consisting of freshmen Emily Bradshaw, Alex Huie and Rachel Nelson, received honorable mention from the Tennis Recruiting Network as one of the top mid-major recruiting classes of 2013-14.
  • Redshirt junior Sarah Khan is also a new face to the Dukes, as she transferred to JMU from New Mexico over the summer.

  • This is the second time that the Dukes and Red Flash will meet on the football field. Last year, the two squads met in the season opener at Bridgeforth Stadium, with JMU taking a comfortable 55-7 victory
  • Sophomore quarterback Michael Birdsong was 29-for-42 for 310 yards, three touchdowns and one interception at Akron, the seventh best game in school history.
  • Dae'Quan Scott continues to move up the JMU career rushing charts to seventh with 2,519 yards, just 15 yards behind Maurice Fenner (2003-06) in sixth at 2,534.  He also ranks seventh at JMU in career scoring with 198 points.
  • Senior kicker Cameron Starke's 28 career field goals puts him fifth all-time, trailing Mickey Stinnett (1982-84) by two in fourth. John Coursey (1993-96) holds the all-time record with 39.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU leads the all-time series 3-1-0. Georgetown won 1-0 at JMU last season.
  • The Dukes' six goals in Wednesday night's 6-1 win over VMI were their most goals in a game since a 6-1 win over St. Bonaventure on Aug. 31, 2012. The six goals were also more than the team had scored in the first three games combined.
  • Both teams' losses have come to solid teams. Both of the Hoyas' defeats came to teams ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA rankings, while the Dukes' lone loss was to UNCG, which sits right outside the Top 25 as a team receiving votes.
  • After opening the season with four straight home games, Sunday is the first away game for JMU.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU picked up a 4-2 win at Longwood on Wednesday, Sept. 11, after punching in four goals in the first half and improved to 3-2 this season.
  • In the win over Longwood, sophomore Erin Gallivan scored her first collegiate goal in her first appearance of 2013.  It was the decisive third goal for the Dukes.
  • Freshman Rosalie Becker notched her first collegiate goal against Longwood, rounding out the scoring for the Dukes.
  • JMU is outshooting opponents by an average of 19.6 shots to 9.2 shots.  When Longwood won the second-half shot battle 7-6, it marked the first time this season that an opponent has had more shots in a half than the Dukes.
  • Richmond is 0-4 this season, but each loss has been by just one goal.  Two Spiders’ losses came in overtime (2-1 vs. No. 20 American, 3-2 at No. 11 Temple), and one came in a shootout (3-2 at No. 5 Virginia).
