RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 9, 2013 – James Madison freshman right side hitter Janey Goodman (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) garnered her second straight Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honor as announced by the league on Monday.

Goodman claimed the honor after collecting a team-best 48 kills (3.69 per set) on .315 hitting to go with 11 blocks and nine digs in the JMU Classic over the weekend. The left-hander collected at least nine kills in all three matches, including a career-high 28 in Madison’s five-set win over Presbyterian. She also had a team-best six blocks in the match against Wyoming while being named to the JMU Classic All-Tournament team.

Goodman’s 28 kills were the most by a JMU freshman since NCAA Division I volleyball switched to rally scoring in 2001. It also ties for the second-highest total by any JMU player in that time with Dana Jones (2000-03) who had 28 against Hofstra on Oct. 10, 2003. It was the highest kill total by a Duke since Allyson Halls (2004-07) had 31 against Georgia State on Oct. 26, 2007.

This season, Goodman leads the Dukes with 77 kills and 2.85 kills per set. She is hitting .279 and adding 0.78 blocks per set.

The College of Charleston’s Darcy Dorton claimed CAA Offensive Player of the Week while Delaware’s Ariel Shonk and Northeastern’s Natalia Skiba shared Defensive Player of the Week.

The Dukes return to the court tomorrow as they travel to Radford for a 6 p.m. meeting with the Highlanders.
