HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 21, 2013 -- James Madison outscored California 8-3 in the second half to pull away to an 11-5 win in the season-opening women's lacrosse game for both teams Thursday evening at University Park.

Redshirt senior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) and sophomore Steph Finley (Media, Pa./Sacred Heart) each scored four goals for the Dukes, who never trailed in the match.

Ancarrow scored the game's first two goals and tallied the Dukes' first three scores.  Her goal with 2:03 left in the first half sent JMU into halftime leading 3-2.  Finley then scored twice in a 4-0 JMU scoring run to open the second period and give the Dukes an insurmountable 7-2 lead.

Cal got not closer than four goals (the last time 9-5 at 4:00) the rest of the way.

Ancarrow and senior Nicole Stiles (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) controlled three draws to lead JMU in that category, and sophomore Lexi Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) finished with game highs of five ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Finley and senior Amanda Mathews (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) each had three ground balls.

JMU held a 32-27 edge on shots over the Bears, and Dukes sophomore goalkeeper Schylar Healy (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) made a career-high 14 saves.  Cal junior goalie Megan McGinnis (Morrison, Colo./Colorado Academy) made eight stops.
