"Our goal in the fourth year, as it has been every year since the tournament's inception, was to raise the bar across the board," tournament co-chairs Jason Murphy and Hal Yuill said. "Bigger, Better, Bring It was our battle cry and our sponsors and anglers answered. We enhanced the experience for participants and showed our sponsors the maximum ROI for their respective brands. Chick's once again proved why this tournament venue is in a league of its own, and the weather was nothing short of perfect. Our success this year has enabled us to move forward with our plans to invest in a revamped website and other online infrastructure to continue tournament growth."
Headquartered out of Chick's Oyster Bar's new "Marlin Club," the event featured 26 boats and over 150 anglers. The weekend event started with a captain's meeting Friday night with bar foods & happy hour. Saturday's festivities included an all-day fishing tournament with dock-side weigh station party and an awards banquet with buffet dinner. As part of the dinner, there was a silent auction of more than 15 exciting items donated by JMU & local businesses, including JMU athletics memorabilia, JMU sporting event tickets, and a week's stay in Costa Rica. The model of the tournament was a proven winner for both the JMU Duke Club & the lucky winning anglers in the tournament's most competitive and successful fishing to date. A combined $4,395 in cash payouts at the awards banquet was the largest payout in the tournament history!
