HARRISONBURG, Va., June 22, 2010 -- James Madison University basketball player Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) has been predicted to be picked in the first round of next year's Women's National Basketball Association Draft.

The website Draftsite.com, which provided the 2011 mock draft, listed Evans as the eighth overall pick.  The eighth pick would go to the Minnesota Lynx in a trade from Connecticut, Draftsite.com indicated.

Draftsite.com correctly predicted 27 of the 36 players selected in the 2010 WNBA draft.  Five of those predictions were exact matches with players and round selected.

Evans, a rising senior guard, last season averaged 24.6 points and 4.6 assists a game.  She was among the candidates for the three major national player of the year awards -- the Wade Trophy, Wooden Award and Naismith Trophy.

She has set numerous school records, including single-game points (38), career 30-point games (17), season points (761), season free throws (177) and season three-pointers (112).

Should Evans be selected in next year's WNBA draft, she would be the second JMU player drafted.  The first was Tamera Young, who was the eighth overall pick in 2008.  Young, drafted by the expansion team Atlanta Dream, was traded to the Chicago Sky during the 2009 season.
