HARRISONBURG, Va., March 29, 2011 -- James Madison women's basketball player Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) has been selected Richmond Times-Dispatch state women's basketball Player of the Year.

Evans, who averaged 23.1 points per game in 2010-11, finished her career as the leading scorer in both JMU and Colonial Athletic Association history with 2,667 career points.  She was named the Most Outstanding Player at the CAA Tournament the past two seasons and was a unanimous selection as 2011 CAA Player of the Year.

Evans, who was named to the Times-Dispatch All-State Team for the third year in a row, shared All-State Team honors with Dukes' senior center Lauren Jimenez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen).

The pair helped lead the Dukes to their second straight CAA Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Jimenez was the Dukes' leading rebounder (8.5) and second-leading scorer (14.1) this season.  She was an All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Tournament Team honoree.

Evans is the second player in JMU history to be selected the Player of the Year by the Times-Dispatch.  Meredith Alexis received the honor in 2007.

Joining Evans and Jimenez on the Times-Dispatch All-State Team were Virginia Commonwealth forward
Courtney Hurt, Richmond guard Brittani Shells and Hampton point guard Jericka Jenkins.

Hampton's David Six was chosen the state Coach of the Year.

The all-state team was selected by Times-Dispatch women's basketball writer Vic Dorr Jr.
