ATLANTA, March 16, 2010 -- James Madison senior guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) State Farm All-Region 2 Team.
Evans is among seven players named to the Region 2 team and among 52 players nationwide selected to the eight all-region teams. The all-region honorees are candidates for the State Farm All-America Team, and a selection committee will cut the list to 40 finalists on March 21. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.
The All-America Team will be announced on Saturday, April 2, as a part of the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis.
Evans won all-region selection for the second year in a row. She is only the second player in school history to earn WBCA all-region honors. Sydney Beasley was an all-region selection in 1987 and 1988.
Evans was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament after the Dukes beat Delaware 67-61 in Sunday's championship game. She earned her second consecutive MOP honor as JMU won its second straight CAA Tournament championship. She was also a unanimous selection as CAA Player of the Year.
Evans ranks second in NCAA Division I in scoring at 23.2 points per game. She is JMU's and the CAA's all-time leading scorer with 2,647 points, and she holds more than 40 other school records.
