HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison University and its Department of Athletics mourn the passing of longtime friend and supporter Bob Wade, who died suddenly this past weekend at the age of 66.

Founder and owner of Bob Wade Auto World, Wade was heavily involved in JMU and Athletics, as he was also a long-time sponsor of JMU Athletics. A donor to the University since 1984, Wade was also a donor to the College of Business, College of Visual and Performing Arts and the University's general fund, as well as being a friend to many of the programs, coaches and staff at the University.

He and his wife Kathy are members of Circle of Champions, a group that has made significant contributions to the athletic facilities at JMU. The couple also established an endowed scholarship for student-athletes as part of the Samuel Page Duke Scholarship Endowment program. Wade also actively supported the Duke Club through his dealership's participation in the Wheel Club program.

"Bob was a dear friend to both the University and me personally," JMU Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Charlie King said. "He loved JMU Athletics and could always be counted on to support the athletic program, both as a fan and donor. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult and sad time."

"Bob was an incredibly supportive fan, donor and friend to our athletic program," Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne said. "He and his wife Kathy have always been the very first to step up and help with whatever initiative we have undertaken.  They have been cornerstones in our athletic program.  We are all going to miss Bob tremendously and will keep his family in our prayers.  JMU Athletics has lost a true friend."

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg from 5-8 p.m. A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at the Port Republic United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made Port Republic United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 116, Port Republic, VA 24471.
