ATHENS, Ga., Jan. 3, 2014 – James Madison redshirt freshman Taryn McLaughlin (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) paced five JMU divers at the Georgia Diving Invitational by placing 11th on one-meter board at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga., Friday afternoon.
McLaughlin scored a 259.15 on the one-meter board in the preliminaries, placing 10th and joining the top 12 divers in the finals. In the second session, the Hudson, Ohio, native scored a 253.35 to finish 11th in the event.
Freshman Olivia Lehman (Dayton, Ohio/Centreville) finished in 20th, scoring 236.40 points while junior Alex Savage (Carrolton, Ga./Lewisville Hebron) placed 24th in just her second action of the season. Savage scored a 228.85 on the one-meter board. Sophomore Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) claimed 27th with a score of 224.05. Freshman Katie Sheppard (Crozet, Va./Western Albermarle) rounded out the five Dukes participating by placing 49th with a score of 175.85.
Alabama’s Paige McCleary scored 309.45 to finish first in the event while Laura Ryan of Georgia placed second and Tennessee’s Victoria Lamp claimed third.
Day two of the Georgia Diving Invitational gets underway on Saturday morning with the three-meter board preliminaries at 11 a.m.
