HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 13, 2013 – Three James Madison men’s soccer players received All-Colonial Athletic Association honors, the league announced Wednesday night. Junior Josh Grant (Plymouth, England/Torpoint College) and sophomore Bjarki Aðalsteinsson (Kópavogur, Iceland/Menntaskólinn í Kópavogi) were selected to the second team, while senior Adam Bastidas (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) was voted by the league’s coaches to the third team.
Grant, a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team last year, continued to be one of the go-to players offensively for the Dukes this season. He led the team in goals (7) and points (16), and scored multiple goals in a game twice, both JMU wins. Grant has 14 career goals in just two seasons.
While Grant led the team offensively, it was Aðalsteinsson who guided the JMU defensive effort. The sophomore helped the team post three shutouts during the season, each with a different goalie. He has earned All-CAA recognition in each of his first two seasons with the Dukes, as he was named to the first team last year.
A captain for JMU, Bastidas was one of the most consistent players for coach Tom Martin’s team this season. He was first on the team with five assists and second with nine points, while also adding two goals.
Bastidas also represented the Dukes on the conference’s All-Academic Team. It is another in a long list of academic awards for the team’s top student, including JMU’s Scholar Athlete of the Year award following both his sophomore and junior years.
