RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 3, 2013 – James Madison volleyball freshman right side hitter Janey Goodman (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) is the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Goodman finished her first weekend of collegiate action with 29 kills on .228 hitting, adding 10 blocks and two digs. The rookie connected on 29 kills against 11 errors in 79 attack attempts. She was also fourth on the team with her 10 blocks. Goodman averaged 2.07 kills per set and 0.71 blocks per set while appearing in all 14 sets.
In the Dukes’ match at Virginia, Goodman had a team-best 14 kills on .300 hitting with three blocks. She contributed seven blocks in helping her team comeback from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Marshall. In that match, JMU totaled 17.5 blocks, the third-highest total for the team since NCAA Division I volleyball went to rally scoring in 2001. Goodman had seven kills on .200 hitting in that match.
JMU returns to action this weekend as it hosts Wyoming, CSU Bakersfield and Presbyterian in the JMU Classic at Godwin Hall/Sinclair Gymnasium.
