WILLIAMSBURG, Va., April 19, 2013 – Junior Ruxandra Andriescu (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Turner Fenton) notched the decisive fourth point for third-seeded James Madison women’s tennis Friday morning to complete the Dukes’ 4-0 sweep of sixth-seeded Towson in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Championship.  Andriescu won 6-1, 6-1 over Nisha Shah at No. 3 singles to pick up her fourth-straight victory.

JMU advances to the semifinals of the tournament and will face second-seeded UNCW on Saturday, April 20.  Match-play begins at 10 a.m. at the Millie West Tennis Facility at William & Mary.  UNCW overpowered seventh-seeded Hofstra 5-0 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals.

In JMU’s quarterfinal match Friday, the All-CAA First Team doubles pair of sophomore Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) and senior Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County) struck first, taking down Ayana Dow and Moriah Burke 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.

The junior duo of Andriescu and Jacqueline Palmucci (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) clinched the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage for the Dukes.  They rolled Andrea Samlin and Lorena Ferrer 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to keep momentum with JMU heading into singles play.

Palmucci gave the Dukes a 2-0 lead with a straight-set win (6-0, 6-2) over Dow at No. 2 singles.  She has won eight of her last 10 matches and four of her last five matches against CAA opponents.

Senior Megan Douglass (Wilton, Conn./St. Luke’s) posted the third point for JMU with a two-set win (6-2, 6-1) over A. Burke at No. 6 singles.  She improved her win streak to four straight matches, has won 10 of her last 12 matches and holds a 12-4 record this spring.

Once the Dukes sealed the win, matches at Nos. 1, 4 and 5 singles were discontinued.

In a neutral-court match on Feb. 1, the Seahawks slipped past the Dukes 4-3 after picking up four of six points available in singles play.
