HARRISONBURG, Va.- James Madison women’s volleyball played with members of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County on Monday night. The players led the clinic, teaching the basics of the game.
"The Big Brothers Big Sisters Clinic was a great event as the team is always eager to spend time teaching volleyball skills as well as their love for the game with kids of all ages and ability," said assistant coach Brett Versen.
Each “Little” brother or sister was accompanied by his or her “Big” brother or sister as arranged through the mentorship organization. The day allowed the matches another opportunity to bond.
Sophomore volleyball player for the Dukes, Martha Stewart, had the chance to bond with her little and coached her during the clinic.
“It's fun to get the chance to make such a great impact on someone's life in a pretty simple way. It's helped me realize how easy it is to serve as a positive role model for a child, and how much they look up to us as college students,” said Stewart.
