Four More Reach Championship Finals for Swimming at Pittsburgh Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa., Nov. 18, 2012 – Four individuals reached championship finals to highlight the action for the James Madison swimming team on the final day of the Pittsburgh Invitational at Trees Pool on Sunday. 

Senior Andrea Criscuolo (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) recorded the team’s top finish in the six events that took place on Sunday. She timed a 2:04.33 in the 200-yard butterfly to place third. Sophomore Melissa Criscuolo (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) also reached the championship final in the 200 fly, finishing seventh (2:07.82). 

Junior Kelsey Holmgaard (Roanoke, Va./George Mason) and sophomore Sin Hye Won (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) were the other two swimmers to reach championship finals for the Dukes. They both did it in the 200-yard breaststroke. Won claimed sixth in a time of 2:19.82, while Holmgaard placed seventh at 2:22.55. 

Other top finishers on the day for JMU included seniors Caroline Burns (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) and Anna Susko (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury), junior Morgan Johnson (Woodstock, Ga./Woodstock) and sophomore Susanne Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area). Burns and Susko finished just 0.01 apart in the 200-yard backstroke to place ninth and 10th, respectively. Burns touched the wall at 2:05.47 with Susko just behind her at 2:05.48. 

Johnson was the team’s top finisher in the 1,650-yard freestyle, claiming 11th overall with a time of 17:32.27. In the 100-yard freestyle, Gingher finished 11th in the 100 freestyle in a time of 52.66. 

The Invitational concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay. Gingher, Burns and Holmgaard teamed up with freshman Camilla Czulada (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) to place sixth in a time of 3:31.01. 

JMU returns to the pool in two weeks as it hosts its only home meet of the on Saturday, Dec. 1. The Dukes welcome in Radford and Mount St. Mary’s for Senior Day.
