HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 7, 2013 – Freshman Ashley Herndon (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday, earning the honor for the second time this season following women’s soccer’s two conference wins last week.
Herndon scored both game-winning goals as the Dukes picked up road wins at Delaware (2-1) and Drexel (2-0). The rookie forward found the net with just 41 seconds left in regulation against the Blue Hens and then broke a scoreless tie in the 76th minute at Drexel. Herndon leads JMU with five goals, four of which have been game-winners.
JMU has been awarded three Rookie of the Week honors this season. Herndon received the award on Sept. 16, and freshman Meghan Cox (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) was named the top rookie following the opening week of the season.
The Dukes will play one game this week, a conference matchup at home against Towson at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
