RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 9, 2013 – James Madison women’s soccer senior Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downington) has been named to the preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association team in a vote of the league’s head coaches on Friday.

Wilson was the team’s leading scorer in 2012, collecting eight goals and two assists for 18 points. She has three game-winning goals on 49 shots. She started all 18 games at forward for Madison.

Senior defender Becky Sparks (Laurel Springs, N.J./Paul VI) joined Wilson on the preseason accolade as an honorable mention selection after making All-CAA Second Team a year ago. She tied for fourth on the team with five points, contributing a goal and three assists.

Hofstra sophomore forward Leah Galton, who earned CAA Rookie of the Year accolades last season, has been chosen as the CAA women’s soccer preseason Player of the Year for 2013 in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Galton led the Pride and ranked second in the CAA with 11 goals and 27 points last season. She scored two goals in a game three times, all of which came against conference foes (Delaware, Georgia State and Northeastern), and netted a pair of game-winning goals.

Joining Wilson and Galton at forward on the preseason All-CAA women’s soccer team are UNCW sophomore Maddie McCormick and William & Mary senior Dani Rutter. McCormick earned third-team All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie accolades last season after tallying eight goals and three assists, while Rutter contributed seven goals and three assists and made the All-CAA second team.

The midfield features four returning all-conference honorees. Hofstra sophomore Jill Mulholland (6 goals, 5 assists) and Northeastern senior Hanna Terry (2 goals, 5 assists) were both first-team All-CAA picks, while Drexel senior Sam Greenfield (5 goals, 1 assist) and Delaware senior Chelsea Duffy (2 goals, 1 assist) were second-team All-CAA selections.

The preseason All-CAA defense is headlined by Drexel junior Melissa Chapman (4 goals) and Delaware junior Allegra Gray, who both received first-team all-conference accolades in 2012. William & Mary junior Emily Fredrikson was a second-team All-CAA choice and UNCW sophomore Lindsay Byrne was a member of the CAA All-Rookie squad a year ago.

Rounding out the team is Drexel junior goalkeeper Eve Badana, who was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-CAA selection in 2012 after posting a league-best 0.68 GAA with 66 saves and 10 shutouts for the Dragons.

Joining Sparks as honorable mentions were Northeastern goalkeeper Paige Burnett, UNCW midfielder Stephanie Bronson, William & Mary defender Leci Irvin and Northeastern defender Oksana Nicholls.
