Women's Soccer Loses 1-0 in Preseason Scrimmage at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 9, 2012 -- Virginia Tech's Shannon Mayrose scored the game's only goal as the Hokies beat the James Madison women's soccer team 1-0 in a preseason exhibition game Thursday night.

Mayrose scored on a shot to the high left corner of the goal off a cross from Ashley Manning.

Tech held a 10-1 advantage on shots and took four corner kicks to two for JMU.  

JMU sophomore goalkeeper Kate Courter started the match and made four saves.  Dukes' redshirt freshman goalie Ellen Forrest finished with one save.

The Dukes will play another preseason exhibition at home Sunday night when JMU hosts Virginia Commonwealth at 6 p.m. at University Park.  Admission and parking are free.  The new facility is located at the corner of Neff Avenue and Port Republic Road, with parking available off Neff Road.
