RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 14, 2011 - Virginia Commonwealth extended its unbeaten streak to nine games as the Rams topped James Madison 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Friday evening.

The Rams now have an 8-7-4 overall record and finished CAA play with a 6-2-3 record.  VCU is unbeaten over the last nine games with a 6-0-3 record in that span.

JMU's record now stands at 8-8-3 overall and 5-5-1 in CAA competition.

The Rams clinched the number two seed and a first-round bye for the upcoming CAA Tournament, which will be hosted Nov. 3, 4 and 6 by top-seeded William and Mary.

JMU must now await the outcome of CAA games on Saturday and Sunday, which will determine the final four qualifiers for the six-team CAA Tournament.

VCU, which has outscored its opponents 14-2 during its nine-match unbeaten streak, netted two goals in under five minutes late in the second half.

Karol Sanchez scored on a header off a cross from Maren Johnson at 72:24, and Courtney Conrad got the second goal, assisted by Rebecca Haislip, at 77:19.

JMU out-shot VCU 8-7, but Rams goalkeeper Kristen Carden made three saves to get the shutout.  Dukes redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kate Courter (Lincoln Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart) finished with two saves.
