Did You Know? JMU's next opponent is league-leading and
nationally-ranked William and Mary, a team that features the CAA's top scorer
in junior midfielder Mallory Schaeffer (14 goals, 33 points). Schaeffer has a tie to the JMU program --
she's the younger sister of former JMU midfielder Melanie Schaeffer ('08), who
was a three-year starter for the Dukes.
Seniors
Recognized: Four JMU seniors
will be honored prior to kickoff of the Oct. 23 game vs. ODU. The senior class includes Yolie Anderson-Golhor, Jessica Barndt and Ariana Ruela,
all of whom have been a part of the program for the past four seasons. Also recognized will be redshirt senior Laura Trevillian, a JMU graduate
student and former Loyola (Ill.) player who is completing her eligibility this
season with the Dukes.
Scouting William
and Mary:
The 20th-ranked Tribe has a 13-1-2 overall record and is unbeaten and
untied (8-0-0) in league play. W&M,
which has already locked up the top seed and the right to host the upcoming CAA
Tournament, brings an eight-game winning streak and nine-game (8-0-1) unbeaten
streak to Harrisonburg.
W&M is coming off a 3-1 win at
Northeastern and has also posted league wins at home over Towson (5-0), George
Mason (3-1), Georgia State (3-0), Drexel (2-0) and Delaware (2-1) and on the
road at UNC Wilmington (3-0) and Hofstra (1-0).
W&M was picked by the CAA coaches to
finish third in the 12-team league.
The
Series with William and Mary: William and Mary leads the all-time
series against JMU 15-10-2, but the Dukes have won the last four meetings, all
by 1-0 scores.

CAA Standings: With three games left in the 11-game CAA
schedule, unbeaten (8-0-0, 24 points) William and Mary has clinched first place
in the CAA
Standings. As the top seed the Tribe
will host the CAA Tournament on Nov. 3, 4 and 6.
JMU (4-3-1, 13 points) is tied for
second place with Northeastern, which also has a 4-3-1 record.
Only four points separate the number
two through 11 teams in the league standings.
In a two-way tie for fourth are
George Mason and VCU (12 points). In a
two-way tie for sixth are Delaware and Drexel (11 points), and tied for eighth
are Old Dominion and Georgia State (10 points).
Towson and Hofstra are tied for 10th (9 points).
The top six teams in the
final league standings qualify for the CAA Championship tournament. The number one and two seeds receive
first-round byes, while the three through six seeds play first-round games on
Nov. 3. The semifinals are Nov. 4, and
the final is Nov. 6.
(NOTE: In CAA play three points
are awarded for a win and one point is awarded for a tie.)
National Rankings: Three Dukes' opponents are ranked or
are receiving votes in the latest national polls. JMU's ranked or vote-getting opponents
include Maryland, William and Mary and Virginia Tech.
