HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 16, 2011 -- James Madison women's soccer Head Coach Dave Lombardo has announced the signing of four players to scholarships at JMU.
The four hail from four states, including Virginia, California, New York and New Jersey.
The class of 2011 includes:
Maddy Brown, Forward/Defender, Herndon, Va., Chantilly H.S., Club: Chantilly Burn
Lombardo on Brown: "Maddy is a tremendous athlete and has the versatility to be either a dynamic attacker or a hard-nosed defender."
Stephanie Hamilton, Forward, Coronado, Calif., Coronado H.S., Club: San Diego Surf
Lombardo on Hamilton: "Stephanie is a creative and intelligent attacking player. She has a nose for creating scoring chances for herself or for teammates."
Katie Hyland, Forward, Islip, N.Y., Islip H.S., Club: Smithtown Attack
Lombardo on Hyland: "Katie is a strong athletic forward with the versatility to play numerous positions.:
Shannon Rano, Defender, Somerville, N.J., Immaculata H.S., Club: Wall Wombats
Lombardo on Rano: Shannon is a hard and fast defender who will give us some good quality depth in our defense.
Last season JMU won the Colonial Athletic Association championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to defending national champion North Carolina. The Dukes, who finished the season with a 15-7-1 record, played in the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in the last 16 seasons.
