HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 17, 2014 – Highlighted by a 15-point, 13-rebound performance at first-place Delaware, freshman forward Yohanny Dalembert (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Lower Merion (Pa.)) was rewarded Monday with Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors.
Dalembert, who shared the honor with Drexel forward Rodney Williams, entered last week averaging 1.5 points and 2.1 rebounds through JMU’s first 24 games but averaged 7.7 points, 5-7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in JMU’s 2-1 week. He had career highs of seven points and six rebounds before breaking through with a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double in a loss at first-place Delaware. His Delaware performance earned him his first career start vs. UNCW, and he added seven points in a win over the Seahawks to match his previous career high.
For the season, Dalembert is now averaging 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds along with 11.8 minutes per game over 24 games.
Dalembert joins freshman guard Jackson Kent (High Point, N.C./High Point Christian) as Dukes to earn Rookie of the Week this season. Kent was honored on Dec. 9 and again on Jan. 27. In addition, sophomore guard Ron Curry (Pennsauken, N.J./Paul VI) was selected Player of the Week on Dec. 23.
JMU hosts Drexel on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in its penultimate home game of the season.
