HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 21, 2013 – Senior Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the league announced today. It is the second time in her career she has earned the honor.
Wilson scored three goals, including two game-winners, in JMU’s conference victories over UNCW (2-1) and College of Charleston (3-0). The senior broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 27th minute against the Seahawks, and then scored two goals in a span of two minutes in the second half to lift the Dukes past College of Charleston. Wilson has five goals this season and is tied for seventh all-time at JMU with 29 career goals.
It is the fourth conference award of the season for the Dukes. Freshman Ashley Herndon was named the Rookie of the Week twice, while freshman Meghan Cox received the same award following the opening week of the season.
The Dukes are in a three-way tie for first place in the conference and will wrap up the regular season with two games on the road this weekend. They will travel to play Northeastern , one of the teams they are tied with atop the conference, on Friday at 6 p.m., and will play at Hofstra on Sunday at 1 p.m.
