FARMVILLE, Va., Sept. 22, 2013 – The James Madison women’s soccer team broke a scoreless tie in the second half with two goals in less than two minutes, going on the road to beat Longwood 2-0 in non-conference action Sunday night.

JMU improved to 7-3-0 with its fourth straight win and third consecutive shutout. The four-game winning streak is the Dukes’ longest since they won six straight during the 2010 season, a year in which they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Freshman Sydney Braun-McLeod (Ottawa, Ontario/Glebe Collegiate Institute) broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 62nd minute, her second score of the season. Freshman Meghan Cox (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) set Braun-McLeod up with a breakaway opportunity, playing a 40-yard ball behind the defense.

The Dukes struck again less than two minutes later as Cox tallied her third goal of the season to put her team up 2-0. Junior Sam Lofton (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) delivered a corner kick into the box, and Cox finished with a header. Lofton has posted four points (one goal, two assists) in the past three games.

Sophomore goalie Ellen Forrest (Midlothian, Va./James River) made two saves to record her third consecutive shutout. She is the first JMU goalies to accomplish the feat since Kate Courter went three games without allowing a goal in 2011.

JMU has won its past three games by identical 2-0 scores. In all three games, the Dukes scored both of their goals within a 10-minute span in the second half.

The Dukes, who have already matched last year’s win total with nine regular season games still remaining on the schedule, will play their final non-conference game of the season when they host George Mason on Wednesday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast free of charge on Madizone HD Sportsnet.
