NEW ORLEANS, La., Feb. 25, 2013 - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has honored senior Katie Harman (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) as a 2012 Division I Women's Cross Country All-Academic.  The James Madison cross country squad was named a 2012 Division I Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the fourth consecutive year the squad has earned the distinction.

To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic status, an individual athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the top 15 percent of in the NCAA region.  Harman is one of 115 athletes to make the individual list and one of just two athletes from the Colonial Athletic Association to earn the honor this season.  She finished in 14th place at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet last November.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, a squad must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have started at least five runners at its respective NCAA regional championship.  JMU received All-Academic team honors alongside 200 institutions from 30 conferences nationwide, including five other CAA schools.  The Dukes held a team GPA of 3.523 through the fall 2012 semester, the highest among qualifying CAA schools, and started seven runners at the regional championship meet.

JMU finished sixth at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlotte, N.C., in early November 2012.  Later in the month, the Dukes won the Eastern College Athletic Conference Cross Country championship in New York behind a first-place finish by senior Katie Gorman (LaFayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and a second-place finish by Harman.
