HARRISONBURG, Va., March 29, 2011 - James Madison senior forward Denzel Bowles (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) grabbed a pair of Virginia state honors recently as he was named First Team All-State by both the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Bowles was last week named a Mid-Major All-American and has also been named First Team All-CAA and First Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He averaged 17.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game along with 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
In each of his two seasons at JMU, Bowles topped 500 points, including 581 in 2010-11, the sixth-best total in program history. He is just the fourth player in school history to post multiple 500-point seasons. He is also the 11th player to reach both 1,000 career points (20th with 1,101) and 500 rebounds in his JMU career.
In addition to 11th in career scoring, Bowles ranks fourth all-time with a .587 field-goal percentage, fourth with 19.1 points per game, second with 9.0 rebounds per game, sixth with 87 blocks and second with 26 double-doubles.
On the season chart, Bowles stands second with 14 season double-doubles. He set a record with 290 season rebounds. He also set top-10 marks for a season in field goals (226), free throws (129), free-throw attempts (181), blocks (53) and starts (33).
