BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The James Madison men's golf team is currently third after the opening round of the Keith Hills Invitational, hosted by Campbell University. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the Keith Hills Country Club (Par 71 - 6,609 yds) in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Monday morning opening round start was delayed until 11:00 a.m. due to overnight and morning rain. The second round was suspended early at 7:30 p.m. because of darkness.
JMU finished the first round at 12-over 296, trailing Gardner-Webb and host Campbell, who are currently tied for first at 4-over 288. George Washington and Jacksonville University are tied for fourth at 13-over 297.
The Dukes were lead by senior Rich Leeper (Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro) who ended the opening 18 at even-par 72 and is tied for sixth place. Leeper was steady in the first round, posing pars on 16 of 18 holes. Freshman Connor Walters (Salem, Va./ North Cross) shot a 2-over 73 and is tied for 16th. Junior Tucker Koch (Malvern, Pa./ Malvern Prep.) is currently tied for 26th with 4-over 75, sophomore Trey Smith (Virginia Beach, Va./ Kellam) is 6-over 77, and senior Ryan Vince (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) wrapped up the day tied for 48th with 9-over 80.
The Dukes will resume second round play with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning. The final round will immediately follow to cap the 54-hole tournament.
