KNOXVILLE, Va., Jan. 4, 2012 – Senior diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) placed seventh out of 51 divers on the one-meter board during the second day of the Tennessee Diving Invitational at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center Friday.
Helfrich scored a 274.60 to finish seventh out of 12 divers in the finals. She qualified 12th out of 51 divers with a preliminary score of 256.45.
Sophomore Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas/Lewisville Hebron) joined Helfrich in the top 15, scoring a 251.55 to claim 14th. Freshman Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) placed 42nd with a score of 203.10 and fellow rookie Lauren Hadley (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) came in 48th by scoring a 182.20.
Missouri’s Loren Figueroa won the one-meter competition with a score of 301.25. Figueroa was the only diver to break 300 points, edging out Tennessee’s Jodie McGroarty (295.30) and Samantha Lera (293.25) for second and third, respectively. Alabama’s Paige McCleary claimed fourth with a score of 286.95, while Victoria Lamp made it three Volunteers in the top five with a score of 282.80.
The JMU diving team returns to action in dual meet competitions on Saturday, Jan. 12 as it takes on Georgetown and American in Washington, D.C. at 1 p.m.
