HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 29, 2012 - James Madison men's basketball head coach Matt Brady added Tom Rivard of Worcester, Mass. to the Dukes' roster for the 2013-14 season after the forward signed a national letter of intent.

"Tom Rivard we think is a sleeper recruit at 6-7 and surprisingly athletic," said Brady of his third fall signee.  "He does everything well and he's got great intangibles.  He plays on a really good high school basketball team.  Like the other two guys we've signed, he has a high basketball IQ and does everything well.  There aren't a lot of holes to his game, perhaps with the exception of needing to add some strength."

Rivard stands at six-foot, seven-inches and weighs 205 pounds.  He enters his senior season at Worcester Academy in Massachusetts on a team that has already seen three other players sign for Division I squads.  His approximate junior year output was 8.5 points and seven rebounds per game.  Also an accomplished academic student, Rivard drew interest from multiple Ivy League schools before ultimately committing to JMU.

Rivard joins a signing class that already includes six-foot, seven-inch point guard Jackson Kent of High Point, N.C. as well as six-foot, eight-inch forward Paulius Satkus of Lithuania.

"We wanted to get a few guys who could play multiple positions on the front court, which is true of Paulius and Tom Rivard.  They are both high energy, high-intangible guys, who really know how to play.  I couldn't be more excited about this recruiting class.  The nucleus of this program moving forward is really strong for athletic and long guys who really know how to play."
