Said JMU head coach Disa Garner, “I’m really excited to have Brian joining the staff.  Having been a varsity men’s player at Ball State, he’ll bring a different and exciting approach to our game.  He has a lot of knowledge to share with our team.  I think he will really complete our staff well.”

“I believe that James Madison is going to be a great step in my career as a volleyball coach,” stated Grimes. “I think Disa has done an amazing job building the JMU volleyball program to what it is today.  I am honored to become part of this program’s history and tradition and I am excited to move this program into the future.  My family and I are looking forward to becoming part of the JMU family.”

Grimes played three seasons of varsity volleyball at Ball State from 1997 to 2000.  He then served as an administrative assistant and student assistant coach for the women’s team from 2000 to 2002.  His tenure included a 25-7 record for the Cardinals in 2000 and an NCAA invitation followed by a 21-9 mark in 2001.

After Ball State, Grimes moved on to a one-year stint at the University of Evansville as an assistant coach for the women’s program.  He also possesses two years of experience coaching club volleyball in Indiana

Grimes graduated from Ball State in 2002 with a bachelor of science in journalism.  He resides in Harrisonburg with his wife, Becca, and daughter, Sydney.
