RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 27, 2012 – James Madison volleyball freshman outside hitter Meghan Niski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Niski finished the opening weekend of action with 29 kills and a team-best 32 digs in the JMU Classic. The rookie averaged 2.64 kills on .239 hitting and 2.91 digs per set. She also added a block, a service ace and an assist in 11 sets played. Niski recorded at least nine kills in each of the three matches for JMU, including 10 and a team-high 14 digs in her collegiate debut against Appalachian State.
Hofstra’s Kelsie Wills was named the Player of the Week after collecting 80 kills while leading the Pride to a 4-0 weekend to open up the season. Northeastern’s Natalia Skiba claimed Defensive Player of the Week accolades. She recorded 73 digs, averaging 6.08 per set, as last weekend’s Beanpot Classic.
JMU returns to the court on Thursday as it takes on Long Beach St. in the opening game of the Long Beach State Mizuno Invitational. The Dukes also play Wisconsin and Cal. St. Northridge in the three-day event.
