RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 7, 2011 – James Madison volleyball redshirt freshman setter Kristi Richardson (Glen Allen, Va./Heritage) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday. It is the second time this season Richardson has collected the conference’s weekly honor.
The Glen Allen, Va., native collected 84 assists, 21 digs, 13 kills, two blocks and two service aces in eight sets played last week. She led JMU to a .241 hitting percentage in a pair of wins over in-state foes Norfolk State and George Mason last week. Against the Patriots, Richardson had 50 assists, 18 digs and 13 kills to post the first triple-double by a Duke since Emilee Hussack (2002-05) in 2005. Her 50 assists were the most since junior setter Megan Wiechmann (Sunland, Calif./Village Christian) had 50 in a four-set win over Central Florida on Sept. 17, 2010.
Against Norfolk State, Richardson averaged 11.33 assists per set and led Madison to a .341 attack percentage as the Dukes swept the Spartans, 3-0.
Delaware middle blocker Chelsea Lawrence was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week while UNCW libero Haley Collins earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
JMU returns to the court this weekend as it host Delaware and Towson for the final two games of the regular season. The Dukes take on the Blue Hens in Sinclair Gymnasium/Godwin Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday while hosting Towson for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
