RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 15, 2010 - James Madison senior Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Dukes to wins over Northeastern and Hofstra last weekend.
Callahan averaged 3.25 digs per set and 1.38 blocks per set to help JMU sweep the final weekend of regular season action and clinch the two-seed in next weekend's CAA Championships. Against Northeastern, she set a new career-high with 21 digs. The Virginia Beach, Va. native added six block assists, 10 kills and a service ace in on her way to recording her ninth double-double of the season and the 32nd of her career. Callahan recorded 10 kills, five digs and five block assists in Madison's 3-1 win over the Pride on Saturday. Her five digs against Hofstra gives her 962 in her career and moves her into eight on the school's all-time list.
This season, Callahan ranks second on the team in kills (332), fifth in digs (231) and third in blocks (64). She ranks fourth in the conference in points per set (3.79), sixth in kills per set (3.16) and ninth in service aces per set (0.30). Nationally, she ranks 193rd in kills per set and 171st in points per set.
Northeastern's Britney Brown and Delaware's Paige Erickson shared the Offensive Player of the Week honors while Towson's Katy Buck garnered Rookie of the Week.
JMU returns to the court on Saturday in the first round of the CAA Championships. The second-seeded Dukes will square off with No. 3 Northeastern at the University of Delaware's Carpenter Sports Building at 5 p.m.
