RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 20, 2013 -- The James Madison men's tennis team opened the spring season 0-2 after falling in both of its matches in the VCU 4-1 Invitational.  The Dukes fell 4-1 to No. 31 VCU in their opening match of the spring slate and later lost 4-1 to Richmond on Sunday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.

In the 1 p.m. match-up against the Rams, freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) put a point on the board for the Dukes when he defeated junior Pascal Domnik in three sets.  Stirling pushed to an early lead with a 7-5 victory, but Domnik took set two 6-3.  In a decisive set three, Stirling battled to an 11-9 win.

Senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) picked up the only other singles point on the day for JMU when he defeated Richmond's Ethan Dunbar in the second match.  Pool fell in set one, 3-6, before storming back to take both set two and set three 6-4, winning the point.

Both matches for senior Hugo Ramadier (Rome, Italy/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) proved to be a show of resilience.  While unable to capture a point, Ramadier saw both of his matches go to third sets.  In his first singles match, against No. 113 Jaime Vazquez (VCU), he won the first set 6-4 before falling 6-7 and 10-4 in the final two.  When facing Paul Nahon later in the afternoon, he dropped set one 6-1 before tying the match after a 6-1 win.  He then lost 6-3 in the last set.

JMU will return to action on Friday, Jan. 25 against Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Play is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Alpha Tennis & Fitness.
