HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 15, 2012 – After opening its season with a pair of double-dual meets and the CAA Pod Meet, the James Madison swimming and diving team returns to action this week at Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh in the Pittsburgh Invitational.

The three-day invitational runs from Friday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 18 and includes women’s teams from Pittsburgh, California (Pa.), Fairmont State, Florida Atlantic, Pitt Bradford, West Virginia and West Virginia Wesleyan.

“We always look forward to our mid-season invitational because it is the only time we can compete in a prelim/finals format before the CAA Championships in February,” head coach Samantha Smith said. “This is the first time JMU has traveled to Pittsburgh in many years, so we are excited to see some different competition.”

The Dukes are 5-2 in dual meet competition this season and 3-0 against CAA teams after sweeping the CAA Pod Meet two weeks ago. JMU won 13 of the 18 events, including both diving events and three of the four relays. Seniors diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) won her third CAA Diver of the Week award after sweeping both diving events. Other members of the team to collect multiple wins included senior Andrea Criscuolo (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant), junior Kelsey Holmgaard (Roanoke, Va./George Mason) and sophomore Sin Hye Won (Springfield, Va./West Springfield).

“Beyond the championship format, we are very excited about our lineup,” Smith added. “The team will be in many of their primary races, but you will see some new faces in different events. It is important to expand the swimmers’ talents and that means racing events they might not get to in a standard dual meet lineup. It should be a fun meet and hopefully we will see some great racing over the course of the next three days.”

In addition to the swimming and diving team’s appearance at the Pittsburgh Invitational, members of the diving program are participating in the Nike Cup hosted by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., this week.
