BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) won her first-round singles match to lead the James Madison women's tennis squad on Saturday at the ITA Atlantic Regionals.
Pinchoff fell 1-6 in set one to Marshall's Kai Broomfield in their round-of-64 match-up on Saturday afternoon. She then battled back to take two straight 6-1 sets for the win. The sophomore advances to the "round-of-32" on Sunday to face Howard's Katelyn Stokes at 11:30 a.m.
With the win, Pinchoff moves to 9-1 in singles play this fall.
Pinchoff played earlier in the day with senior Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County) in the round-of-32 of the doubles bracket. The duo's fall tournament season ended in an 8-2 loss to Virginia's second-seed pair of Stephanie Nauta and Li Xi. Pinchoff and Nguyen finished the fall season with an 8-3 record.
Junior Jacqueline Palmucci (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) fell in her round-of-64 match-up 6-0, 6-1 to the four-seed Erin Vierra (UVA).
