HARRISONBURG, Va., April 4, 2012 - After a weekend on the road and a pair of neutral-site conference matches, the James Madison women's tennis team returns to Harrisonburg for its final home match of the season. The Dukes will host 10-11 Liberty on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Hillside Tennis Courts.
After splitting a pair of CAA matches last week, topping Delaware 6-1 on Friday and falling to UNCW 6-1 on Saturday, JMU is 9-4 on the season. The Dukes are led in singles play by junior Michelle Nguyen (Springfield, Va./South County), who carries a 9-3 singles record into the matchup with the Flames and had a seven-match winning streak snapped vs. UNCW. Sophomore Jacqueline Palmucci is 9-4 with a four match winning streak and junior Megan Douglass, also 9-4, had a four-match win streak broken against the Seahawks, she had won her previous three matches.
Liberty enters competition at 10-11 overall and shares multiple common opponents with the Dukes. The Flames' most recent competition came against Winthrop, a 7-0 loss that dropped LU below .500 and ended a six match winning streak for the Flames. Like JMU, Liberty has played matches against Appalachian State (L, 4-3), Georgetown (L, 7-0), Norfolk State (W, 7-0) and Radford (L, 4-3). The Dukes are 3-1 against common opponents while the Flames are 2-2.
LU's Nicola Wellman was named Big South Freshman of the Week on April 3 after posting a 4-1 record last week. Wellman is 5-5 in her last 10 matches.
JMU is 1-3 against the Flames dating back to 2006-07.
